Artist Statement:
The Latin title is loosely based on the idea that everything becomes old or ancient (Vetus) and eventually returns to the earth (Terra). This process of decay gives way to life or renewal (Nova). One cannot experience life if one does not accept death. There is an attempt at capturing the temporal nature of things in Nova Terra Vetus. However, it attempts to represent the meeting of two opposites that can exist in the same liminal, transitory space. The ambiguity is always in all of us. The piece represents our paradoxical existence.
