Kristin NG-Yang — Biography
Kristin Ng-Yang is a Chinese-born South African artist who has lived and worked in South Africa since 1999. Raised in a family of artists and trained in Western art traditions in China, she works across painting, drawing, printmaking and installation.
Her practice explores the intersections of memory, migration and cultural inheritance, attending to the ways in which personal and familial histories are transmitted and reinterpreted across generations and cultural contexts.
Moving between figurative and abstract forms, she considers how images, objects and materials hold and mediate memory, negotiating the relationship between lived experience and historical narratives. Her recent work is marked by a more restrained visual language, in which quiet line and flat, chalky colour take on a particular significance.
