Dominic Tshabangu was born in the Gauteng township of Soweto, and after completing high school he studied art under the guidance of Philip Maulumise and Vincent Baloyi. From 1985, Tshabangu attended The African Institute of Art at the Funda Centre in Soweto as a part time student. He later received his certificate for Fine Art from Funda in 1992.
He also attained his certificate from The Visual Arts Teachers Training College. He has exhibited his work at the Wits Gallery, Everard Read Cape Town, and the Pretoria Gallery amongst others. Tshabangu works in various mediums, and usually depicts colourful and vivid scenes of urban and rural life in contemporary South Africa.
