Welcome S’phiwe Danca (b. 1978, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa) is a visual artist born and raised on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, near Port Shepstone.
Welcome was introduced to the work of the late South African artist Trevor Makhoba by Sibusiso Duma, an encounter that influenced his development as an artist. His practice focuses on contemporary everyday life, exploring personal memories, daily challenges, and the contrast between growing up in a rural environment and his present urban and international experiences.
Through his work, Welcome reflects on shared experiences of upbringing, community, and the ways in which people adapt to different environments. He works across a range of mediums, including oil and acrylic paint, charcoal, recycled materials, and themes connected to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
With extensive experience in the visual arts, Welcome has participated in exhibitions both nationally and internationally. His experience includes the Schutz Art Museum Residency in Austria and engagements in London, United Kingdom. His work forms part of national and international collections, and he has undertaken various art commissions.
