Luke Batha was born in 1984 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Batha is a contemporary painter working with subject matter such as landscapes, buildings and most recognisably his watercolour portraits. Batha is largely influenced by the Renaissance painters as well as the classical draughtsman and drawers. Batha worked under Stephan Erasmus, the ABSA collection curator. Having been exposed to art at an early age Batha has cultivated his intrinsic artistic talents, into his own body of expressive and abstracted works. He spent time in 1996, in a gap year where he travelled in France and England, enhancing is artistic influence. Batha is the son of iconic painter Gehard Batha.
