At the core of her passion lies surrealism, a genre that continually fuels her artistic expression.
Her art explores the impact of external forces on innocence, acknowledging the influence of societal pressures and internal struggles.
She invites viewers to embark on a journey of introspection, confronting the “masks” we wear, the conflicts we wrestle with, and the ever-evolving landscapes of self-discovery. Ultimately, her work seeks to celebrate the multifaceted nature of identity, acknowledging its fluidity and the intricate narratives that shape it.
“Drawing inspiration from Friedrich Nietzsche’s notion of the masked “profound spirit” (“EVERY PROFOUND SPIRIT NEEDS A MASK”), I delve into the act of self-presentation and the multifaceted identities we construct. The shaving of hair, as a recurring motif, becomes more than an act of humility; it transforms into a potent symbol of identity exploration and the societal judgement attached to physical expression.
With a keen eye on contemporary trends, I engage with the evolving concept of “them/they” identity, not as a catalyst for loss but as a spectrum of self-discovery.
Through my work, I invite viewers to embark on a journey of introspection, confronting the masks we wear, the conflicts we wrestle with, and the ever-evolving landscapes of self-discovery.
Ultimately, my work seeks to celebrate the multifaceted nature of identity, acknowledging its fluidity and the intricate narratives that shape it. “ – Michele Loubser 2024
