Fiona Rowett was born in 1948. After graduating from Michaelis School of Fine Art, Rowett started painting in the mid 70's. She has had close to 30 solo exhibitions and has participated in many group shows. Her work can be seen in corporate and private collections here and overseas. "Working intuitively I search for that elusive combination of sub-conscious mark-making and the manipulation of elements to find a sense of closure given by a finished painting". The process involves layering, rubbing, scraping off and applying more paint as forms emerge and disappear until a balance is found. "My passion is not to describe the visible world but to delve into the invisible – to reveal concealed beauty". As an admirer of the Abstract Expressionists there is a constant need to find that 'authentic mark' "
